The land and farm of I Ciacca, abandoned for over 100 years and left to nature in the 1960s, was revitalized in 2013. Given that pesticides and fertilizers were never used here, the land was carefully cleaned, drained, and replanted by hand with Maturano, a grape historically grown at I Ciacca. Cuttings from neighboring vines were used to reintroduce Maturano, combining traditional methods with modern practices.

Farming is done organically, with a strong emphasis on traditional techniques, including recycling all organic matter back into the soil. Rigorous grape selection occurs during pruning and throughout the year. I Ciacca is located within the Zona di Protezione Esterna of the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise and is recognized by ARSIAL as one of the “Vigneti storici ed eroici” of Lazio. In 2022, I Ciacca became a founding member of “Ciociaria Naturale,” promoting natural wines from Ciociaria.

The vineyard features heavy clay and calcareous soils with slopes up to 45 degrees. Grapes are hand-harvested, with final selection made on-site. The wines ferment naturally in an underground winery without added yeasts or nutrients and age in concrete tanks. Bottled wines are matured in a centuries-old cave, reflecting the traditional characteristics of Maturano, which improves with age.
